Dear Colleagues,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 17th Gulf Engineering Forum:  ‘The Resources Crunch – Exploring the Future’.

The Gulf Engineering Forums (GEF) is an annual gathering of the six Gulf Council Countries (GCC) engineering societies together with the engineering community and related industries within the Arabian Gulf and beyond. The forums chief aim is to provide a platform for engineers, government officials and people from the industry to interact and share views, experiences and latest developments in the engineering domain. The first GEF was held in Kuwait in April 1997 and  continued thereafter to be hosted annually and respectively by each member of the six GCC’s engineering societies, the last one being the 16th GEF held in February 2013 in Saudi Arabia Jeddah, under the title "The Environment in the GCC Region“.

The 17th Gulf Engineering Forum will be held in Muscat in February 2014 and will address the future challenges with respect to natural renewable and non-renewable resources, alternatives and opportunities. We expect that the forum will attract the attention of practitioners and academics from the region and internationally and will set the agenda to shed good light on this critically important subject.
